What is a fife?

From the Merrian-Webster Dictionary:

Simple Definition of fife:

“a musical instrument that looks like a small flute”

Full definition of fife

“a small transverse flute with six to eight finger holes and usually no keys.”

Fifes of all kinds have been used in military and folk music for centuries, and thus fifes have been made by made by many different makers the world over. 

The purpose of this website is to share information regarding many different makers of these historic instruments, showing the construction and giving brief histories on many of the makers.

Over the next few months different instruments will added and some issues dealing with fifes will be discussed, so stay tuned.
